Although not strictly animation collections, these compilations of music videos highlight some of the most creative short films being made. And films that, with the virtual death of music videos on television, are rarely seen. Plus you can dance to them.

The Director's Series

The Director's Series is the best collection of music videos that I've run across. Each volume features extensive work from some of the best directors working in the field, many of whom have gone on to direct feature films. Not much animation, but wonderfully inventive and entertaining nevertheless. Each volume includes an extensive booklet and lots of extras. All are highly recommended, but if I have to pick a favorite, it would be Michel Gondry's collection.

Stash DVD Magazine

Stash is a monthly DVD magazine featuring the best work in visual effects, animation, music video and motion effects from all over the world. Aimed primarily for ad agencies and creative directors, each issue a showcase for effects houses and contains some of the most amazing cutting edge work being done. A bit wanky for the home viewer, perhaps, there is some remarkable work offered in this series - much of it unavailable elsewhere.
